Flamenco Updates gone rogue!

Dear students and aficionados,

My website is experiencing some technical glitches and has begun sending out update emails at random. Yesterday’s update about cafe cante and festival workshops was from last March and should be disregarded.

I’m so sorry for spamming you with emails! I believe I’ve fixed the problem but should it happen again, I will disable the service and move to another mail service.

Thanks to everyone who emailed to notify me of the problem :)

Rosanna Terracciano’s film project – A Quiet Flamenco

Two years ago Canadian dance artist Rosanna Terracciano invited me to participate in her film project A Quiet Flamenco – exposing the introverted, vulnerable and muted aspects of flamenco dance through film. one artist at a time. I am honoured to be one of six artists from across Canada invited for this initial round of films which was just completed in December and includes my work as a flamenco dancer and pianist.

Other artists in this initial series include:

Myriam Allard (Montréal)
Sarah Bronsard (Montréal)
Claire Marchand (Ottawa/Winnipeg)
Veronica Maguire (Victoria)
Oscar Nieto (Vancouver)

Rosanna received the Canada Council for the Arts’ Jacqueline Lemieux Prize in 2017 for this work and is planning to continue to expand the project with more artists in the future.

This month it was a featured article online in The Dance Current – www.thedancecurrent.com/video/quiet-flamenco.

You can check out all six of the films at the website aquietflamenco.com
and follow the project on facebook at www.facebook.com/aquietflamenco

Rosanna will be in Edmonton performing new work on January 11th and 12th at Mile Zero Dance as part of ReLoCate: Experiment #3.

Upcoming classes – save the date!

My fall flamenco class session will be starting the week after Thanksgiving and will include a workshop with Stephanie Pedraza on the weekend of Nov. 30th – Dec. 2nd.

As students have been asking, I thought I’d give an update on classes so you can plan ahead. Level III/IV students, I really need feedback from you on the schedule before proceeding, please see below.

Class schedule for Fridays, beginning October 12th, will be as follows:

6:00 – 7:00 Beginner – tangos
7:00 – 8:00 Level I – bulerias
8:00 – 9:00 Level II – solea

If you have taken a few sessions of tangos, it’s time to move up to Level I.

If you have taken a few sessions of bulerias, it’s time to move up to Level II. We do have bulerias review at the end of each class in this level.

If you have taken a few session of Level II, it’s time to join Level III. Please see below.

Some students prefer to take two levels as they transition, there is a discount for taking two levels in one semester. Not sure what level is best for you? Please send me an email.

Full information and registration will be coming out soon. We are just in the process of finalizing details.

Levels III and IV – Available studio times have changed at MarrMac and I need some feedback from you before setting our class schedule. If you are hoping to take classes at these levels can you please fill out the following poll by Friday September 14th, so I can see what will work best? Class Schedule Poll

Once we have our workshop info settled, I’ll post the registration information. Hope to see you in class!
