NEW Cante Classes with Irena Dumicz – 6 classes

As part of this session’s classes, Irena Dumicz will be offering cante (singing) classes working on material por tangos and alegrias. No previous experience singing flamenco is needed.

Fridays 6:00 – 7:00pm at MarrMac
February 22nd – April 5th (no class on March 8th)
Early-bird registration deadline – February 15th

This 6 class session will focus on two styles (palos) of flamenco singing:

30 min – Tangos de Granada (4 count )
30 min – Alegrias de Cadiz (12 count )

Students will study verses – letras and colletillas for each palo, with palmas (clapping). Group and individual singing will be encouraged.

Early-bird registration deadline – January 25th
All classes cover new material.
Beginner 1 and 2 are equal in level.

NEW* – If you’d like to join your classmates in performing our class material as a group at the Flamenco Society of Edmonton’s Community show on May 26th, there’s a place to indicate your interest on the registration form. Email communication will follow with those who are interested.

Beginners – if you’re ready to get actual flamenco shoes, please see my RESOURCES page above for a list of websites you can get them from. Those that carry shoes have an * after their name. Well known shoe maker Menkes has 2 new styles of very reasonably priced beginner shoes for women –

Level – Beginner 1
(for those with little or no experience)
Tuesdays 8:00pm – 9:00pm
Form: Tangos letra – movement to the verse
*please note this class is not open to level III/IV students

Level – Beginner 2
(for those with little or no experience)
Fridays 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Form: Tangos footwork – appropriate footwear required
*please note this class is not open to level III/IV students

Level – I
(for those who have completed at least two sessions of Tangos)
Fridays 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Form: Bulerías
*please note this class is not open to level III/IV students

Level – II / III
(for those who have completed at least two sessions of Bulerías)
Fridays 8:00pm – 9:00pm
Form: Soleá – choreography and technique

Level – IV
Wednesdays 8:15pm – 9:15pm
Form: Alegrías – choreography and technique

Friday, April 5th – 6:30 – 8:00

This group class is a combined group class for all levels. This will give each level a chance to perform their dance for the other students and to see what other classes have been learning. We will finish with a few videos to watch and coffee at a local café afterwards. Please note that the group class is for current students only. Guests are not allowed.

One level – Early-bird $120/$160 after January 25th

Palmas practice:
$5/class – drop-in, pay at class
You may drop in on the last 30 min. of any lower level class to practice your palmas. Not attending other classes this session? Please email me first so I know to expect you and can confirm your level.

Teaching prep:
$10/class – drop-in, pay at class
For Level III and IV students only
Drop-in on the beginner class to work on assisting me with teaching, providing palmas, and observing how my beginner classes work. We’ll structure your involvement depending on the day, how often you’ve been there, and who else is there for this purpose. Please email me first so I know to expect you and can confirm the dates will work.
