CLASS REMINDERS

Friday, March 6th final group class 6:30 – 8:00

A reminder that the final group class for all students is Friday, March 6th. Students will all get a chance to review their material from 6:30 – 7:00

    • 6:30 – 7:00 – review class work with your classmates. We will use available studios
    • 7:00 – group warm up and presentation of pieces

This is an informal opportunity for each class to perform their dance for the other students and to see what other classes have been learning. We will finish with a few videos to watch and coffee at a local café afterwards. It’s a really fun night and a great way to end the semester. There is no obligation to perform.

*Please note that March 6th’s group class is for current students only. Guests are not allowed.

If you registered but have missed a lot of classes or had to withdraw from class this semester, please feel free to come to the final class as an observer to see what others have been doing, watch some videos with us and meet other members of the community. It’s a fun night.

Next session

Classes will resume after the flamenco festival and will include rehearsal for the community concert. Info coming out later this week.

Cante (song) class with José ‘El Pechuguita’  – for all levels.

I highly encourage everyone to attend. This class is designed to practice singing as a group and even if you are not interested in singing beyond the class, it’s invaluable for deepening your understanding of the dance. Never been to a cante class before? Not to worry we tend to all help each other out. This is a fun class with a lot of students attending. José ‘El Pechuguita’ was here as a guest of Jairo Barrull in 2018 and taught a fantastic class por tangos.

Compás (palmas) class with El Oruco  – for students that have experience with the 12 count.

El Oruco is a master at palmas and his compás classes are the best out there. This is the first class I look for when I go to study in Seville. If you are in my level I class or above, this class is for you.

Dance classes with El Oruco and Karolina González – have a look at which level is appropriate for you below.

    • Are you in my Beginner level tangos classes?
The Introductory level Tangos with Karolina González is aimed at your level.
You can sign up for Package A if you want to take both days of dance, and Package B if you want to add the cante class as well.
    • In my level I – III bulerías or soleá por bulerías classes?
The Beginner/Intermediate level bulerías with Karolina González is aimed at your level. Level III’s, the Intermediate/Advanced level is also for you.

Farru – Early-bird deadline ends tonight!

Master Classes with Farru – November 1st – Early-bird deadline October 18!

In just two weeks! – master classes with Spanish flamenco dancer Antonio Fernandez Montoya, Farru, of the legendary Farruco family. He will be on tour with The Paco de Lucia Project, (performing in St. Albert October 31st at the Arden Theatre). We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to study with him in Edmonton on November 1st.

Here’s a video of him jamming on the streets of NYC last week.

I have taken a fair amount of class with Farru and study with his family regularly. He’s a friendly and generous teacher. If you’ve ever studied tarantos or tangos with me, chances are you have learned some of his steps. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to study with him! He is rarely in Canada and we are lucky to have the chance to study with him in Edmonton on this tour.

More info and registration at this link – Master Classes with Farru

**The Beginner/Intermediate level is now full but I anticipate there may be some adjustment. If you would like to be added to the waiting list for this level, the Early-bird rate will be honoured if you are on the list by tonight and a spot opens up before Nov. 1st. Students registered in my Fall class session, you are already signed up!

With funding from the Alberta Dance Alliance – Community Workshop Series, I am collaborating with the Edmonton Flamenco Festival to bring this workshop about. Here on only her second visit to Canada, also stopping in Toronto – it is a thrill to present an opportunity to study with Carmen in Edmonton.

Workshops are open to the public. Some previous flamenco experience required.

Carmen Ledesma returns!

Carmen Ledesma
At long last, I can announce – Direct from Spain, flamenco dancer Carmen Ledesma returns to Edmonton for workshops from November 22nd – 24th, 2019! A featured artist at the first Edmonton Flamenco Festival in 2017, she is a favourite of audiences and students alike. Registration information is coming soon.

FALL SESSION CLASS REGISTRATION NOW AVAILABLE

I’m excited to announce that both of our guest teachers from Spain are part of the dance class session this fall. Some of their classes are included in my class session and fees. Farru will be teaching instead of me on Friday, November 1st and Carmen Ledesma will on Friday, November 22nd.

If you have already registered for Farru’s class and are planning to attend my fall session, you may deduct the amount you paid from the total when you register for my classes. Please just make a note in the Additional Comments section so I remember why.

For the first time since 2010, my class fees have gone up slightly this fall, including the drop-in rate which is now $22/hr.

This session fee is also slightly higher to help accommodate our guest teachers. If you find you need to choose between my class session and a few classes with them, please do choose to take from our guests. It is an experience you would pay a fortune to get to have in Spain and we are incredibly lucky to have both of them here in Edmonton as even getting class with them in Spain is difficult.

hope to see you this Fall!
