Performance in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg!

At long last I can announce that I will be back performing flamenco piano and dance this Spring. Join us for a night of Flamenco, live and up close, in Edmonton’s premier jazz venue, Yardbird Suite. Last year’s show sold out weeks in advance. We’re so pleased the Yardbird was able to offer us 2 nights this year.

I’m thrilled to be back performing with my longtime friends and colleagues: dancers Claire Marchand (Vancouver/Winnipeg) and Rosanna Terracciano (Calgary); and guitarist Peter Mole (Vancouver); as we collaborate with singer and percussionist Francisco Orozco “Yiyi” (Spain), for an intimate evening of flamenco dance, guitar, piano, rhythm, and song. It’s a dream to travel with this show to my hometown of Calgary at the DJD Dance Centre, and then to Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre.

Performance and masterclass in Edmonton!

I have been invited to participate in “The Magpie Collection – A Dance Festival” at Mile Zero Dance this July.

As part of the festival, I will be teaching a class in flamenco rhythm and body percussion on Tuesday, July 23rd from 12:00 – 1:30.

As well, Rosanna Terracciano and I are collaborating for a flamenco dance piece “ALONE” on July 27th.

ALONE – One of the greatest challenges of working as a flamenco artist outside of Spain (and especially as a prairie artist in Canada) is the scarcity of other flamencos to interact with on a regular basis. Flamenco is such a complicated and interactive artform, yet we often find ourselves isolated – conversing with imagined musicians, dancers, and singers – preparing for the brief moments when we will finally get to react to each other in performance. How do we prepare for those brief moments of togetherness? How do we perform flamenco when there’s no one to perform with?

Performance in Edmonton!

UPDATE: This show is now sold out!

A rare opportunity to experience Flamenco as it is meant to be: live and up close.

Flamenco at the Yardbird
Sunday, May 12th, 2024
7:30 pm
Yardbird Suite, Edmonton

At long last I can announce that I will be back performing flamenco piano and dance in Edmonton at the Yardbird Suite on Sunday, May 12th (Mother’s Day) at 7:30pm.

The lineup for this show is fantastic. I’m so thrilled to be performing with my longtime friends and colleagues: dancers Claire Marchand (Vancouver) and Rosanna Terracciano (Calgary); and guitarist Peter Mole (Vancouver); as we collaborate with singer Celedonio Garrido (Spain), for an intimate evening of flamenco dance, guitar, piano, and song.

This project had been percolating for the past year when a sudden opportunity to work with Cele popped up this Spring inspiring us to bring it to fruition in May. We’re so pleased the Yardbird was able to accomodate his available dates.

Performance in Calgary

Coming up in September!

I’m so excited to be back in my hometown performing with my longtime flamenco friends in Calgary. It’s a fantastic lineup of artists.

Thanks to Annette Morcos for inviting me. We had a lot of time to catch up in person while I was in Seville this July. We even went to a few shows out of town together and ended up running into each other in classes with Juana Amaya as well. I’m so happy to be able to perform together again.

Flamenco Esencia: An evening of traditional flamenco music amongst friends.

Aura Calgary – Food & Bar
(628 8th Avenue SW)
Saturday, September 9th, 2023
Start time: 6:30 pm
Doors open: 5:30 pm

Annette Morcos (singer/dancer) will be back from Spain to interpret common and rarely performed palos (forms of Flamenco); she will be performing along with Calgary’s own Francesca Canalizo and Jessica Peñalver-Cote (dancers), Tosh Hayashi on guitar, as well as guest dancer Jane Ogilvie who resides in Edmonton and who has recently returned from an intensive month-long training in Seville, Spain.

EDMONTON FLAMENCO FESTIVAL – March 12th – 15th

Save the date for the Edmonton Flamenco Festival featuring guest artists from Spain! I’m beyond thrilled to be bringing dancer El Oruco from Seville who has been my mentor since 2010.

He has such an incredible sense of rhythm and is a generous teacher known among his students for his warm and generous persona. His technique classes are deadly, compas classes are the best out there, and the steps he teaches leave you inspired. His wife Karolina, is an excellent dancer and a wonderful teacher as well. She has an incredible ability to break things down in a way that makes everything click (and stick).

It’s going to be a great festival this year.
