Upcoming Classes in May and June

The registration information for flamenco classes in May and June is now available. I am offering a 6 week session continuing on with the classes we have been working on.

Intro level  – we will work on more advanced technique and learning to improvise with the cante in Tangos por fiesta, using both material you have learned, material from Stephanie’s workshop and new material. Students in this level are welcome to stay for the first 15 min of palmas of the level I class (at no cost) to gain some exposure to the 12 count, and are ready to join the Performance class on Wednesday nights if interested.

Level I – we will work on more advanced technique and learning to improvise with the cante in Bulerías por fiesta, using both material you have learned, material from Stephanie’s workshop and new material. We begin with 15 min of palmas. Students in this level are ready to join our Performance class on Wednesday nights if interested.

Levels II – we will work on technique and choreography for Alegrías – Silencio and Bulerías sections using material from Stephanie’s workshop and new material.

Level III – we will work on technique plus a falseta section for the Siguiriyas choreography using material from Stephanie’s workshop and new material. Note that classes are now on Wednesdays at La Girandole

Performance class – All levels welcome. We will spend 30 min each on Tangos and Bulerías por fiesta. This class gives the opportunity for students to work on their palmas, solo dance and improv skills. Each dancer works at their own level. Note that classes are now on Wednesdays at La Girandole.

Students please note I am no longer offering Classes à la Carte. There have been just too many complications in the past.

Hope to see you this Spring!

Final flamenco class this Friday

Dear Students,

A few reminders

Final Flamenco Class – Friday night – 6:30 – 8:00 for all levels.

Our final flamenco class of this session is this Friday night from 6:30 – 8:00 for all levels.  This class is only open to current registered students and those that have paid drop in during in this session.

Observers/guests/family/friends are not able to sit in on this class.

We will use the first 30 min to review. Depending on how many rooms are available, we will spread out and each level with have a chance to review their piece. At 7:00 we’ll do a group warm up, each level will present their piece, we’ll watch a few flamenco video clips and head off for a coffee at a local cafe (the coffee will be after 8:00). If you are a current student but have missed a lot of classes this session and won’t be performing, please do join us as an audience member to get a taste of what other students have learned, see some inspirational video and meet other flamencos in our community.

Stephanie Pedraza returns!

I’m excited to announce that Stephanie Pedraza will be returning to Edmonton for a weekend workshop in flamenco dance and song on April 25th and 26th, 2015.

This will be Stephanie’s sixth time in Edmonton giving classes. Her past workshops have received rave reviews. Students learn a short choreography and have the chance to work with cante (song) and compás (rhythm).

These workshops are open to the greater flamenco community. Some previous flamenco experience is required.

If you register early, there is a discounted rate. Early bird registrations must be received by April 1st at the latest in order to receive the discounted rate.

Class size is limited. Though preference is given to students that register for a complete level, if you are unable to make both days or would like to add classes to your level there is also the option to register for individual classes.

The final registration deadline is April 17th

Hope to see you in class!

Stephanie Pedraza April workshop

Dear Students,

I am hoping to host Vancouver artist Stephanie Pedraza for a flamenco workshop in Edmonton on the weekend of April 25th and 26th.

If you’ve never taken classes with Stephanie, this is a great opportunity to get a broader view of flamenco and experience classes with an excellent teacher of both song and dance.  More about her at this link

If the workshop goes ahead, in May and June my classes that continue will incorporate a review of the material Stephanie covers. Since Spring is a busy time and students are often not available for classes I would like to have an idea of how many students are interested in attending her workshop so we can decide if there’s enough interest to bring her at this time.

Here are the proposed schedule and fees:

Intro level class – 1hr – Early bird $30 – After April 1st $35
An extension of the current Introductory class, working with tangos.

Sun. April 26
10:30 – 11:30

Beginner/Intermediate – 3.5 hrs –  Early bird $75 – After April 1st $90
Working with bulerìas as we are in level I

Sat. April 25
3:00 – 4:30 baile

Sun. April 26
11:30 – 12:30 baile
1:30 – 2:30 open level cante and compás (bulerìas)

Intermediate/Advanced – 4 hrs –  Early bird $90 – After April 1st $105
(palo TBA)

Sat. April 25
4:30 – 6:00 baile

Sun. April 26
1:30 – 2:30 open level cante and compás (bulerìas)
2:30 – 4:00 baile

Both Levels (Beg/Inter – Inter/Adv): Early bird $145 – After April 1st $165

Individual class rate: Early bird $30/hr – After April 1st $35/hr

Students I would really appreciate it if you could indicate your interest (or lack of) as soon as possible. I don’t need you to register yet, I just need a general idea of interest to see if a workshop is possible on that weekend.

Hope we can make something happen!
thanks
Jane

Levels I and II are running the full session.

Level III students, I have sent you an email directly. If you haven’t received it please send me an email so I can update you. If you have received it and haven’t already done so please do take a moment to reply even if it’s just to reconfirm your information.

Registration Reminder

A quick reminder that the registration deadline for the upcoming session of Flamenco classes is today Monday, January 26th.  Classes begin this Friday. I will confirm which classes are running tomorrow morning.

Performance class students, a reminder that these classes are not “pay as you go”, the total fees for the classes you confirm by email are due on the first class. We’ve had some confusion this past month over “à la Carte” classes that left me teaching a few classes for free and in some cases being out of pocket for studio fees. Please do take a moment to read my fee policies regarding “à la Carte” classes before you email your commitment to attend. (link here)

Class information can be found here.

If you are planning to attend classes this session, please make sure to get your registration in by midnight. If I’ve received your registration in the mail, I have emailed you to confirm.

A reminder that you can also register via interac e-transfer.  If you would like to register this way and have not done so before, please email me for details.

hope to see you there!
