Final flamenco class this Friday

Dear Students,

A reminder that our final flamenco class of this session is this Friday night from 6:30 – 8:00 for all levels.  This class is only open to current students and those that have dropped in during in this session.

Observers/guests/family/friends are not able to sit in on this class.

We will use the first 30 min to review. Depending on how many rooms are available, we will spread out and each level with have a chance to review their piece. At 7:00 we’ll do a group warm up, each level will present their piece, we’ll watch a few flamenco video clips and head off for a coffee at a local cafe (the coffee will be after 8:00). If you are a current student but have missed a lot of classes this session and won’t be part of the presentation of pieces, please do join us as an audience member to get a taste of what other students have learned, see some inspirational video and meet other flamencos in our community.

Registration information for next session will be posted in late December.

Hope to see you in class!

Jane

Update: Stephanie classes

Dear Students,

Just a quick update to let everyone know that we won’t be hosting Stephanie for classes this time.  We just couldn’t get enough students to make it happen on such short notice.

Thanks to everyone for getting back to me so quickly!

Stephanie Pedraza classes!

Dear Students,

A last minute opportunity has arisen to have Stephanie Pedraza here for some classes on the weekend of November 15th and 16th. We are hoping to host her for some por fiesta classes.
Classes could take place on Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning/afternoon depending on interest.

Since it is so last minute we are needing to know who is interested and available as soon as possible so Stephanie can arrange her travel appropriately.

Here is the proposed schedule

Sat. November 15
3:00 – 4:30 beginner/intermediate (working with bulerias as we are in level I)
4:30 – 6:00 intermediate/advanced (both tangos and bulerias are options)

Sun. November 16
10:30 – 11:30 introductory level
11:30 – 1:00 beginner/intermediate
2:00 – 3:30 intermediate/advanced (after the level III siguiriyas class)

Intro level class
$30 for the Sunday morning class.
This will be an extension of the current Introductory class, working with material we are already working on. It is a great opportunity to get a broader view of flamenco and experience another teacher.

Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced fees
fees for one level would be
$75 total for both days
$45 for one day only

fees for both levels would be
$140 total for both days
$80 total for one day only

Students I would really appreciate it if you could indicate your interest (or lack of) as soon as possible. These classes will only run at the times that enough students will attend so please only indicate times you would commit to as we will be counting on commitments if classes end up confirmed. We understand that this is very last minute but would like to see if any classes are possible.

Hope we can make something happen!
thanks
Jane

New session Flamenco Class information now available

Dear Students,

At long last the registration information for the upcoming session of flamenco classes is now available. I’m sorry for those of you that have been emailing me, there were a few things to sort out before I could finalize the details and therefore information has come out later than I intended. Thank you for your patience!

Introductory level students

I am offering a One Day Introduction to Flamenco on October 3rd to give you a taste of my classes before the full session which begins on Oct. 17th.

Levels I and above – Classes begin on the weekend of October 3rd.

The deadline to register is September 29th.

Not sure about your level? Please contact me.
Students that were in the Intro level tangos class last spring, you are ready for Level I and you are also ready to join the Perf0rmance class if you are interested. Feel free to email me if you’re wondering how that class works.

Levels II and III continue from last term.

Performance Class – this fall I would like to incorporate bulerias por fiesta for the more advanced dancers and I am also asking students who would like to perform to commit to a date for performing in class. We’ll talk about it in your regular classes once the session starts.

Hope to see you this Fall!

May – June Flamenco Classes and this Friday’s final class

Dear Students,

The registration information for flamenco classes in May and June is now available on the website. I am offering a 6 week session continuing on with the classes we have been working on.

These classes will run “à la carte” (formerly Modified drop-in which caused some confusion this term so I have changed the name and clarified the policy). Basically “à la carte” means you choose and pay only for the dates you will attend.  If you notify me your confirmed choices by April 30th, you pay your full fee on the first class at the registered rates ($15/hour, $12/hour for a second class on the same weekend). If you plan to drop in without advanced registration the rate is $20/hour.

Intro level students, I am finishing off the season with more advanced technique and learning to improvise to the cante in Tangos por fiesta using both material you have learned and new material.  This will give you the ability to join the multi-level performance class in the next session. Advanced students in this class are welcome to stay for the palmas portion of the next level to gain some exposure to the 12 count. Please check with me first.

Level I is a Bulerías por fiesta class.  We begin with palmas and then are working on improvising to the cante in much the same way that the performance class has approached Tangos.  Students in Levels I and above are welcome to attend.

Levels II will work on technique plus finishing and polishing the Soleá choreography.

Level III will work on technique plus finishing and polishing the Soleá por bulerías choreography. Note the earlier class time.

Performance class students please make note of the fee policy change! We will continue with Tangos, include Sevillanas and will add individual/small group performance segments for those that are interested in performing their choreography. Note the earlier class time.

Click here to go directly to the registration page.

Current students, please remember our final class of this session is this Friday night from 6:30 – 8:00 for all levels. This class is only open to current students and those that have dropped in during in this session. Observers/guests/family/friends are not able to sit in on this class. We do have a Performance class as usual on Sunday.

Each group will have a quick chance to review their piece. We’ll do a group warm up, each level will present their piece, we’ll watch a few video clips and head off for a coffee at a local cafe. If you are a current student but have missed a lot of classes this session and won’t be part of the presentation of pieces, please do join us as an audience member to get a taste of what other students have learned, see some inspirational video and meet other flamencos in our community. Attendance is not a commitment to perform.

Hope to see you in class!

Jane
